Each spring and fall the tiny western sandpiper makes a journey to and from summer breeding areas in Alaska and wintering sites in Central and South America. Hundreds of thousands of these long distance migrants stop in the Salish Sea each year. The success of the long-distance trips depends on the birds’ abilities to find food at key stop over sites while avoiding being eaten by falcons. The Sandpiper and the Falcon will surprise, astound and delight you on a journey spanning the western hemisphere all the while revealing the natural world as never seen before.
